Wissahickon Trail Running

The Varsity atheltes have requested to have a captain's practice at the Wissahickon to run trails and enjoy the outdoors. Practice will go from 1-3pm and athletes can be dropped off at the Valley Green Inn at Valley Green Rd. at WissahickonPhiladelphia, PA 19128. All of the athletes have my cell phone number if there are any problems.

To Parents: we will be keeping the entire group together for this event for the duration of the practice. Please encourage your children to bring their cell phones and dress appropriately. It is supposed to be pretty cold so I expect to find people in running gloves and beanies. I will be with the students until the final one is picked up however we may not need the entire 2 hours. I expect practice to only last 1 hour and 45 minutes, so feel free to come a little early.

Varsity athletes have arranged rides for those novices who need it. If anyone is still without a ride please email me at Wisniewski.scott@gmail.com

Spring 2010

It has been a fun and exciting first week of practice and I really enjoyed meeting all of the new parents at the meeting this week. I hope all are readjusting to their new schedules. The following is the practice schedule for the next few weeks:

  • As planned, novices will have practice at 3:15 every day this week except for Monday (Varsity at 5:15).
  • As planned Monday's practice is 10-12pm for all rowers.
  • The Student Racing Committee has requested a "Captain's Practice" running trails at the Wisahickon in Philadelphia to break up the monotony of winter training. I would like to plan this during the day on either Thursday January 28th or Friday January 29th from 10-12 for all athletes.
  • Beginning January 26th groups will change from Novice/Varsity to Women/Men and the women's group will practice at the earlier time through February 5th, after which the Men's/women's group will switch and the men will have the earlier practice time.
  • Because of testing and early dismissal, practice times will be at 12:25 and 2:25 through the week of January 29th.
  • Saturday practices will begin again in February from 10-12.
  • Some members of the team will be attending the Main Line Slide on February 6th in Villanova.

  • Monday, March 1st will be scheduled off, enjoy!
  • Practices will proceed switching in a bi-weekly fashion separated by Men/women until our first day on the water which should be March 2nd. After which the first two weeks of practice will be separated by Novice/Varsity.
  • Tuesday, March 9th's practice schedule will occur at 1 and 3pm because of early dismissal.

Transportation to these events is not provided. Please be sure to provide ample driving time to get into and out of Philadelphia. Athletes will be required to show up to events at the Stotesbury regatta 2.5 hours before their event and if required, 1 hour prior to the close of weigh-ins for lightweight athletes.
