The following are the lineups for this weekend. We have had another unfortunate emergency with boats (damage to the Determination hull and loss of fin) and I am working on finding us another boat to row which may be on Boathouse Row. Please be advised there may be a last minute change for one boat.

There will be a lot going on the next two weeks (as usual). This week we will practice at normal time except for this Friday afternoon. We will head to Philadelphia immediately following school on Friday and all can expect a 3:50 launch time. We will try to be off the water by 5:40. This will depend on the speed of rigging that the kids can accomplish.
Next week, because of off days and scheduling we will have practice on the following times:
Tuesday November 2nd: All at 12:30
Thursday, November 4th: ALL at 10:30am
Friday, November 5th: Early group at 10:30am and late group at 12:30.
Saturday, November 6th: Captain's practice at the school at 10AM

The Jingle Bell Run/Walk for Arthritis is a holiday-themed event that will take place on Saturday, December 11th at the Camden County Boathouse in Cooper River Park, Pennsauken, NJ. Registration starts at 8:30am. The event flyer is attached.
I have also attached the volunteer form which includes a description of the volunteer positions. We need volunteers to assist in event set up, registration, cheering, water stations, and other assistance. The volunteer arrival time depends on the type of volunteering you are doing but you will be notified once you have submitted your form. Volunteers that register by Nov. 1 are guaranteed a t-shirt but of course we still accept volunteers after that date. You may register with the attached form (which you can return to me via Emily) or online at www.camdencountyjbr.kintera.org.
Feel free to pass along this information to any teams or clubs that you think would be interested. Let me know if you have any questions. I can be reached on my cell phone (609) 707-1909. We look forward to having you at the best race of the holiday season!
Thank you,

Practice Schedule Change
I apologize for the late notice, however we will only have one practice on Thursday, October 21st and Friday October 22nd. Any students that have a previously scheduled conflict on those days, no matter what the reason, will be excused from practice if they notify the coaches in the next two days. I again apologize for the schedule change. All students should report to the early practice on those days.
There will be a coached captain's practice this Saturday.

The Social Network: Henley
By the way. Our old assistant coach, Michiel Bartman was in the actual dutch boat that won this race. That boat went on to win a silver medal in the Olympics.
Waivers for the Head of the Charles are here:http://www.signyourwaiver.com/ Please fill this out TODAY if you are attending this regatta.

Head of the Housatonic

Congratulations to all athletes who traveled to Connecticut to race in the Head of the Housatonic Regatta today. As expected we found tough competition in all events, but the team performed admirably. Notable performances from Mandy Fry in the HS 1x, the Women's Varsity 4x (Catie Ely, Julie Cipon, Emily Gartland and Tori King) (just 5 seconds out of the medals) and the Men's HS 4x of Ryan Clark, Erik Monzo, Nelson Remetz and Matt Glace who also finished an impressive 5th. This weekend was a real stepping stone in our club's development. Just three years ago we did not have the resources or the ambition to undertake such an adventure and thanks to the efforts of the athletes, parents and the board for making this possible. A special thanks to Jeff King for the use of his monster truck. Certainly one of the things that I love about our sport is the more work you put in, the greater the reward and this weekend clearly personified that.
I hope this is just the tip of the iceberg. I think travelling especially in the fall makes racing and rowing so much more fun and I know at least I will remember the adventures and misadventures of this trip for some time.
I'm anxious to get back to work on Monday and practice will be at 12:20 at the boathouse. Athletes should get to the boathouse and immediately begin to unload boats as quickly as possible. We will need to get in a full workout on Monday in preperation for the Head of the Charles. I expect practice to be over by 2:40.

Rower's Intuition.
Rowing is a sport that requires a lot of intuition. When you are first learning it can be difficult to understand how to improve because your bodies do not have the subtle muscle memory required to move the boat efficiently and effectively (aka. smooth and fast)...yet.
Take a look at the videos below to help clarify the rhythm of a fast moving crew.
Look for the things we have been working on in practice: Slow recovery, engagement of the legs during the drive, proper timing, and body control.
Watching these elite rowers and playing the clips over and over in your head as you row will help you as you develop your skills.

Be sure to write down any questions you may have and we will work through them at practice.
