Tough racing at Philadelphia City Championships

The Hawks faced tough competition at the Philadelphia City Championships on Sunday and true to form each boat raced their hardest. While not everyone made the finals, there were lots of improvements and good momentum that can be carried on through the end of the season. Below is a bit more on the four HT crews that raced in the finals.

Tyler, Noah, Ryan S. and Joel raced hard and snuck into the grand finals for the Freshman boys 4x - a very competitive event among Philadelphia prep schools. The guys raced hard and high, finishing 6th in the afternoon final.

The Girls JV4x continued their rivalry with Conastoga this week, finishing a close second in both the time trial heats and the grand final. Emily, Nicole, Salena, and Cassidy took Stoga off the start and battled seat for seat for the 1000m of the final. Stoga pulled out an impressive sprint beating HT by less then 5 seconds. This will continue to be nail bitter for the rest of the seaon!

Katie, Sara, Kate and Juliette returned from the performing arts trip late Saturday night and after a week without rowing a stroke were able to go stroke for stroke with Conastoga's Lightweight 4x. With a powerful sprint the girls closed in, finishing a mere 1.8 seconds behind Stoga for a silver medal.

Last and certainly not least Maddie continued her streak in the JV 1x finishing a close second and securing another silver medal to add to her growing collection. Maddie's signature "inspirational legs" continue to spark conversation amounts competition and officials!

Good work to everyone on a great day. Everyone is back in town and ready to jump into some hard training for the last few weeks of the season. Make sure to check out the recent article on Haddon Twp. rowing published in Sunday's Philly Inquirer!

In the women's novice single, Mariana Catrambone fought for an impressive third place finish despite gusting winds down the course.  For the second day in a row, the women's novice quad, women's jv quad, and men's jv double bested the competition for gold medals.  Keaton Schneider and Luke Evans also rowed their best race of the season to take home a gold medal in the novice double.

Again, excellent job by everyone, and a great way to start medals season!!
